Boating Registration RI Boat Registration Renewals Rhode Island Boat, ATV, and Snowmobile registrations have moved to the Rhode Island Outdoors (RIO). You can use the system to renew your registration and request duplicate decals. This fully web-based system is part of DEM’s ongoing efforts to improve customer service and streamline our processes. Note: All new boat registrations can only be obtained through DEM’s Boating and Licensing Office. 2025-2027 Boat/ATV/Snowmobile Registration Renewal Customers To start the renewal process online, you first need to request your new RIO Customer Number. This number is required to access your registration renewal information. To get started, please fill out our request form and all the information needed to log into the system for the first time will be sent to your email. You will only need to do this step the first time you log into the system. Moving boat registrations into the RIO system is part of DEM's ongoing efforts to improve customer service and streamline processes. will reduce the time the public spends submitting applications and the time DEM staff needs to receive and issue them, allowing boaters a faster and easier registration process that is business-friendly and compliant with regulations. Why do I need to submit a form before I can access my registration renewal in RIO?? The legacy boat registration system did not collect the same customer information as the RIO system. DEM has issued new, unique customer account numbers for boat registrations to ensure the privacy and accuracy of customer account information. To obtain your RIO number, please submit the request form using the link above. I already have a RIO account for hunting/fishing. Do I need to submit the request form to receive my RIO Customer Number? Yes. Boat/ATV/Snowmobile registrations are separate from existing RIO accounts. The legacy boat registration system did not collect the same customer information as the RIO system. To ensure privacy and accuracy of customer accounts, DEM has issued new, unique customer account numbers for boat registrations. This means customers with existing RIO accounts for hunting and fishing will have a login and account for boat registrations separate and unique from their existing one. Can I purchase a hunting or fishing license from my RIO registration profile? No. Currently, all boating registration accounts are separate and unique from the hunting and fishing accounts. New hunting and fishing licenses can be obtained in person at DEM's Boating and Licensing Office or authorized sales agents. You should create a new account ONLY if you have not held a Rhode Island hunting or fishing license since 2018. Customers with existing RIO accounts for hunting and fishing should continue to use their existing RIO log in. What happens if there is more than one owner of a boat? Renewals can be completed by a single owner in the RIO system and will be reflected in all unique customer accounts tied to the boat. Can I renew a boat in person with an authorized sales agent for hunting and fishing licenses? No. Customers must renew boat registration using https://rio.ri.gov or by going in person to DEM’s Boating and Licensing Office. All new boat registrations can only be obtained through DEM’s Boating and Licensing Office. I have lost my registration card and or decals. How do I obtain new ones? Duplicate Boat Registration & Decals can be requested through the online renewal portal at https://rio.ri.gov Duplicate registration card $5.00 Duplicate set of decals $2.00 You can also visit the DEM’s Boating and Licensing Office, weekdays from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
