The projectfeatures forty new affordable apartments, a food pantry that serves 700 families, and an afterschool theater-arts program – distributed on a number of sites within a concentrated area of Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. Project Narrative: Olney Village apartments are concentrated around the William D’Abate Elementary School where twelve formerly foreclosed properties and several vacant lotsalong six residential blocks were transformed. This project required substantial renovations to be made to eleven existing buildings as well as five new construction buildings in previously vacant lots. Bioswales and bioretention systems are woven into the site design to naturally filter and infiltrate stormwater runoff and save money by eliminating the need for costly underground systems.
